I shared an article on CAEYC: The White Scarf Story.

From my experience as a family child care advocate, I saw how different agencies advocate at the table — mostly for their organization’s goals, which may not align with or prioritize our family child care community.

Initially, I didn’t know what I did was considered advocating. I was there waiting for the public comment session and asked: what about us? And the people at the table realized the existence of family child care.

I was there to support other family child care colleagues and remind everyone that we were also important but forgotten.

You do not need to be a leader to have a voice at the table. You just need to share your voice. The more we tell our stories, the better society will know about us. And we will change the ECE system one step at a time.
